13 December 2022, Chicago – In partnership with the Fil-Minnesotan Association (FMA), the Philippine Consulate General in Chicago conducted a consular outreach mission at the Philippine Center of Minnesota located in the City of Maplewood on 10 December 2022 to provide consular services to Filipinos residing in Minnesota and nearby states. This was the Consulate General’s seventh and final consular outreach this year, following those held in Kansas, Missouri, Ohio, Michigan, South Dakota, and Nebraska.

Led by Consul Ryan C. Pondoc, the outreach team provided a total of 242 consular services including passport, dual citizenship, civil registry, and notarial services. The applicants expressed their appreciation to the Consulate General as they no longer have to drive for more than seven (7) hours from Minnesota to Chicago to avail of different consular services.

The FMA assisted the outreach team by providing promotional and logistical support for this activity. Outreach missions are regularly held every year to bring consular services closer to the Filipino communities in US Midwestern states, outside of Illinois, under the Consulate General’s jurisdiction.

During the meet and greet with the officers and members of FMA, Consul Pondoc thanked the Filipino community in Minnesota for their valuable assistance to the Consulate General’s consular outreach missions since 2006. He also announced that the registration for purposes of overseas voting for the 2025 Philippine National Elections commenced on 09 December 2022 and will end on 30 September 2024, emphasizing that only registered voters will be allowed to vote in the May 2025 elections.

Likewise, Mr. Lawrence Cuevas gave a short briefing about the Philippine government’s 18-Day Campaign to End Violence Against Women (VAW) which ran from 25 November to 12 December 2022. He encouraged everyone to watch and share end-VAW related videos which are posted on the Consulate General’s Facebook page. Consul Pondoc added that this yearly campaign is important since it aims to promote and safeguard the rights of women and girls by addressing all forms of gender-based violence.
