CONSUL GENERAL CALLS ON MICHIGAN’S LIEUTENANT GOVERNOR, PITCHES STRONGER ECONOMIC COOPERATION

CHICAGO 24 June 2025- Consul General Melanie Rita B. Diano called on Lieutenant Governor Garlin Gilchrist II of the state of Michigan on 20 June 2025 at NewLab in Detroit. She was accompanied by PHL Honorary Consul in Michigan, Marcus Evangelista, and Consul Melvin Almonguera.
Acknowledging the prominence of the state’s auto manufacturing industry, the Consul General proposed stronger economic ties between the PHL and Michigan. She presented a plan for a business mission to the PHL in coordination with the Philippine Trade and Investment Center (PTIC) in New York. The Lieutenant Governor welcomed the same and cited that manufacturing is a top priority of their administration.
Consul General Diano conveyed the PHL Government’s appreciation to the state for looking after the well-being of more than 40,000 Filipinos, Filipino-Americans and Americans of Filipino descent who have chosen Michigan as their home. The Lieutenant Governor recognized the Filipino Community’s contributions and pledged his office’s support to the Consulate General’s activities, including those that will commemorate the 80th Anniversary of Diplomatic Relations between the PHL and the US next year.
