PHILIPPINE CONSULATE GENERAL IN CHICAGO CONDUCTS POST-ARRIVAL ORIENTATION SEMINAR FOR FILIPINO TEACHERS AND COMMUNITY LEADERS IN MINNESOTA

22 April 2024 (Chicago) - A Philippine delegation comprised of officials from the Department of Agriculture (DA), with the assistance of the Philippine Consulate General in Chicago, conducted market scanning activities in various business sites in Chicago on 16 April 2024.23 April 2024 – The Philippine Consulate General in Chicago, with the assistance of the Fil-Minnesotan Association, conducted an in-person Post-Arrival Orientation Seminar (PAOS) for Filipino teachers and leaders of the Filipino community in Minnesota. The seminar was held on 19 April 2024 at the Philippine Center in Maplewood, Minnesota, and was attended by about 40 teachers under the US Exchange Visitor Program (EVP) or the J-1 Program and FilCom leaders/members.

Consul General J. Susana V. Paez opened the seminar with her welcome remarks which briefly touched on President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s Bagong Pilipinas campaign. She called on the community leaders and the teachers to be the government’s partner “as we strive to be responsive to the needs of our people.”

The welcome remarks of Consul General Paez was followed by presentations by Consul Ella Karina Mitra on Post’s cultural diplomacy programs and goals for the current year and by Consul Melvin Almonguera on Post’s consular and assistance-to-nationals services. SSS North America Representative Celenia Dimaano and Pag-IBIG Team Leader for North America Virtual Office Andrea Nichole Gatbonton also joined the seminar via Zoom, and presented the investment, social security, and loan programs of SSS and Pag-IBIG.

The Post-Arrival Orientation Seminar for Filipino teachers is a regular program of the Consulate, and is in line with the Consulate General’s mandate of extending appropriate and necessary services to overseas Filipinos in its jurisdiction. The last two PAOS for Filipino J-1 teachers were held in August 2019 in Waukegan, IL and in November 2023 in Chicago, IL. END.
