CHICAGO, IL – Consul General Melanie Rita B. Diano of the Philippine Consulate General in Chicago attended the Musika SamaSama Filipino Festival held at Eugene Field Park on 27 September 2025, celebrating Filipino culture and musical heritage in the heart of Chicago.

During the event, Consul General Diano presented a Certificate of Commendation to The SamaSama Project in recognition of their outstanding contribution to preserving and celebrating Filipino musical heritage. The Consul General particularly commended the group, led by its vocalist, Ms. Lou Ella Rose Cabalona, for their initiative, The Great Filipino Songbook, which explores the Philippines' complex and deeply intertwined relationship with America through music.

The festival brought together members of the Filipino-American community and local government officials, including Alderwoman Samantha Nugent of Chicago’s 39th ward and Alderwoman Leni Manaa-Hoppenworth of the 48th ward, who joined in celebrating Filipino culture and artistry.

In addition to The SamaSama Project's musical performance, the event served as a vibrant marketplace for Filipino-owned businesses, featuring local entrepreneurs who showcased an array of products ranging from artisanal crafts to authentic Filipino cuisine.
