On 11 April 2025, Ms. Shiela Deforest, National Federation of Filipino American Associations (NaFFAA) Outreach Director for Region V (Kansas, North Dakota, South Dakota, Colorado, Montana and Wyoming) called on Consul General Melanie Rita B. Diano to discuss the organization’s projects. The Consul General was joined by Consul Melvin Almonguera.

Ms. Deforest proposed collaboration activities during the Consulate’s outreach missions in US Midwest states, which are within NaFFAA’s Region V. As a sustainability advocate, she pledged assistance in events promoting PHL culture and eco-friendly products. The Consul General welcomed NaFFAA Region V’s proposed projects and Ms. Deforest’s advocacies.

In 2019, Ms. Deforest won the title of Mrs. Eco International 2019. In 2021, she became involved with the International Climate Action Challenge, which helps launch community-guided environmental projects. In 2016, she joined the NaFFAA, a national affiliation of Filipino-American institutions, organizations and individuals in the US promoting active participation in civic and related affairs.END
