9 March 2026 (Friday), Chicago - The Philippine Consulate General in Chicago launched the “80 for 80” Project, which aims to document and recognize Filipino-American women’s work in the midwest United States that raise the profile of the Philippines, as well as benefit Filipinos and Filipino-Americans. The “80 for 80” Project is a brainchild of the Consulate’s Gender and Development Section in support of the 2026 National Women’s Month Celebration (NWMC) and the 80th anniversary of Philippines-United States diplomatic friendship.
The PHL Consulate General, represented by Consul Melvin Almonguera, participated in a panel discussion on regional developments during the Illinois Chamber of Commerce’s 2026 Global Trade Outlook held on 27 February 2026 at Instituto Cervantes in Chicago. He was joined in the panel by Director Mario Quina of the Portuguese Trade and Investment Agency in Chicago, Consul Gabriel Mendoza of the Mexican Consulate General, and Mr. Jean-François Hould of the Québec Government Office in Chicago.
Consul General Melanie Rita B. Diano welcomed Ms. Bacharee Puengpak, the Kingdom of Thailand’s newly arrived Consul General in Chicago, at the Philippine Consulate on 02 March 2026. The visit served as an introductory call following Consul General Puengpak’s arrival in the city last week.

Its second consular outreach mission for the year, the one day event was held at the Filipino Cultural Center Foundation, West 79th St., Overland Park, Kansas 66204 (or some 512 miles away from Chicago), in collaboration with the Filipino Association of Greater Kansas City led by its President, Atty. Angela Fitle, and community leaders Ms. Rachel Manakul and Ms. Helen Austin.

CHICAGO, 24 November 2025 – In line with its commitment to strengthen and modernize consular service delivery, the Philippine Consulate General in Chicago signed a subscription agreement on the implementation of an electronic payment system with Cliqbux LLC on 24 November 2025 at the Kalayaan Hall of the Consulate. The digital payment platform will enable the Consulate to offer secure, convenient, and streamlined electronic payment options to the public.
