The International Famine Commemoration is an international event that allows the global Irish diaspora to remember the suffering and death caused by the Great Famine and acknowledge the contributions of Irish immigrants and their descendants. Its commemoration rotates locations, which was held in Chicago for 2025. The main events included a wreath laying ceremony at the Famine Memorial in Gaelic Park, a holy mass officiated by Father Anthony Brankin, and breakfast and refreshments.

Gaelic Park’s Famine Memorial was designed and sculpted by Father Brankin and in 1999 was dedicated in remembrance of the millions of Irish people who died or emigrated during the Great Famine. [END]
