PH CONSUL GENERAL JOINED THE CLOSING RECEPTION OF THE UNHEARD VOICES OF CARE, A FILIPINO NURSES IN CHICAGO EXHIBITION

Consul General Melanie Rita B. Diano attended the closing reception of the Unheard Voices of Care: Filipino Nurses in Chicago exhibition on 2 August 2026 at the International Museum of Surgical Science.

The exhibition, which opened on 15 May 2026, featured photographs, memorabilia, oral histories, and other materials generously contributed by Filipino nurses, highlighting their personal journeys and the invaluable contributions of Filipino nurses to the healthcare profession in the United States. The exhibition was made possible through the collaboration of the Filipino American Historical Society of Chicago and the Filipino American National Historical Society-Greater Chicago Chapter, in partnership with CIRCA Pintig and House of Nurses: An American Journey.

In her remarks, Consul General Diano congratulated the organizers, curators, partners, and volunteers for the successful staging of the exhibition. She noted that, since its opening in May, Unheard Voices of Care had done far more than present historical narratives - it had given voice to the experiences, sacrifices, and achievements of generations of Filipino nurses whose compassion, dedication, and professionalism have strengthened healthcare systems and enriched communities across the US. She also commended the exhibition's thoughtfully curated displays, public forums, live readings, and related programs for fostering a deeper appreciation of the enduring legacy of Filipino nurses.

Consul General Diano's remarks were followed by those of Alderwoman Leni Manaa-Hoppenworth, who underscored the importance of sustained partnerships in promoting Filipino history, culture, and heritage throughout the Midwest.

The reception also featured cultural performances by the Santacruzan Cultural Group of Greater Chicago, which delighted guests with renditions of the traditional dances Waray-Waray and Lawiswis. The program concluded with the recognition of the exhibition's partners and collaborators, followed by reflections from members of the community on the significance and lasting impact of the exhibition.
